We are a family-owned and operated Kerrville Independent Insurance Agency offering a variety of commercial and personal insurance and risk management solutions. For over 100 years, we’ve helped local businesses and families make sure they have coverage when it matters most.
In 1918 Garrett Insurance Agency, Inc was founded by W. G. Garrett, Jr. & L. D. Garrett. They were secretaries & treasurer of Chas. Schreiner Company, a large department store, sold property and casualty insurance as a sideline business. In 1932 the Garrett brothers hired their nephew R. L. Schmerbeck, Jr. and in 1966 R. L. (Bob) Schmerbeck, III joined the agency. Stephen R Schmerbeck joined the agency in 1986 & purchased the agency in 2010. Since that time, our Kerrville location is considered our “home base” for all our locations in Texas and Kansas.
We are humbled and honored to have received the Reader’s Choice Awards from the Kerrville Daily Times for Best Insurance Agency, Best Insurance Agent, and Best Boss. These awards speak to the dedication we have to each member of our Kerr County community. The Texas Historical Commission recently awarded Bob and Stephen Schmerbeck, of Garrett Insurance, with a Texas Historical Marker for recognition of 100-plus years of protecting your treasures since 1918.
